I've always been the one with a camera — first just to remember things, now because I can't really picture doing anything else. Portraits and documentary work are where I feel most at home: unscripted moments, people caught mid-thought, the kind of pictures that are hard to fake.

Photos rarely come out of the camera exactly right, though, and I've always found that gap — between the shot you took and the image in your mind's eye — the most interesting part of the process. No online filters, no shortcuts, every shot worked until it looks exactly the way I envisaged it. Every now and then that same care goes somewhere stranger — composites, double exposures, odd little experiments — that's what lives in the Laboratory.
